The Stars and Beakers podcast is dedicated to elevating the stories, perspectives, and achievements of remarkable women in science and technology and creating a community for aspiring young female scientists to connect with women already established in the scientific field.

Dr. Katherine (Katie) Mack is a theoretical cosmologist, science communicator and author known for her work researching the universe’s origins, evolution, and ultimate fate. She currently holds the position of Hawking Chair in Cosmology and Science Communication at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, where she carries out research on dark matter and the early universe and works to make physics more accessible to the public through public talks, her social media presence, and her book The End of Everything (Astrophysically Speaking), which explores the possible ways the universe could end.

Mouza Almualla is a researcher currently working on her PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics at Harvard University. As an undergrad, Mouza’s research focused on multi-messenger astrophysics, a field that examines cosmic events through various observational methods. Mouza has authored two first-authored papers published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society and has co-authored several other papers that have been published in various astronomy and astrophysics journals. Her current research interests include galaxy formation and the Epoch of Re-ionization.

Mariama Barry (left) is a current senior at Brooklyn Technical High School and will be attending Cornell University for chemical engineering in the fall of 2025. Mariama started working as a researcher at the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center where she worked on developing more efficient ways of creating transparent conductive patterns using hypersurface photolithography.

Sara Sofia Tovar Guacaneme (right) is a current senior and valedictorian at Harborfields High School and will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for biomedical engineering in the fall of 2025. Sara is currently researching epigenetic breast cancer with a focus on tumor initiation at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
